The Federal Trade Commission is celebrating Valentine’s Day by reminding people to not get scammed when looking for love. At the time she mentioned killing a deer, the Oklahoma woman was on the dating app Bumble. The guy chatting with her about the illegal deer kill just happened to be a game warden. But Tinder’s parent company says the similarities between the apps suggest another kind of swiping — of ideas. In dueling lawsuits, Match, which owns Tinder, alleges that Bumble stole Tinder’s intellectual property. Bumble says those claims are bogus, designed to drive down Bumble’s worth and “poison Bumble in the investment market,” according to Bumble’s lawsuit. The world of online dating is about to get more crowded: Facebook announced on Tuesday plans to roll out its own matchmaking feature. The news sent shares of Match Group tumbling. Match is an online dating conglomerate, with ownership in Tinder, match. Shares of Match fell 22 percent for the day.
